The cold season has arrived! Here in Sonoma County, we are pretty lucky that our winters are mild, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t winterize your home! It’s important to prep your home for the colder weather and tackle routine maintenance projects. Taking a little bit of time to do the following can save you a lot of time, and money, later on. Check out these tips for preparing your home for the fall and winter.
1. Check window and door weather stripping.
2. Wrap exterior water pipes or hose bibs with heating tape.
3. Clean your gutters.
4. Check your roof for damage or leaks.
5. Fill cracks in your driveway and foundation.
6. Check attic insulation for pest damage.
7. Have your furnace serviced.
8. Check your chimney for obstructions and make sure your damper is working.
9. Change the air filters in your HVAC system.
10. Change smoke detector batteries.
11. Clean and store outdoor furniture.
12. Have landscaping pruned and put fresh mulch down.
13. Bring potted plants inside.
14. Change your ceiling fan direction.
15. Check the condition of your pool cover. (if applicable)
